I am a disorganized disaster! Pretty Neat Review & Giveaway!

Walk into my house today and you will turn the other way screaming. I am a disorganized disaster! My entertainment center is overflowing with cable and cords, Wii remotes dangling from drawers. I have to move aside a stack of mail and paperwork to even see my monitor. How did I get this way? How did I let all of my accumulated junk start running my life? I think it may have started the day I gave birth to my first son.

Ok… So it's not as bad as I make it sound. We moved a few weeks back and our house is still cluttered with boxes and half unpacked "junk" strewn everywhere. With five people in a two bedroom apartment things can get a little complicated. We each have our own little spaces in the house, I claimed the kitchen table for my crafts and writing, Hubby has his desk. Eww… That desk frankly scares the crap out of me. So many papers piled on top of each other. It's actually terrifying.

With the twins needing so much attention and D needing too much attention the only thing I can really pride myself most on is the kitchen. It is immaculate! I don't know exactly how I manage, but there is nothing like sitting at the kitchen table in the morning with my hot cup of coffee, looking around at my beautiful shiny kitchen. In the little moments of silence that I catch I wipe down counters and unload and load dishes. But what really does cut down my time is picking up as I go. It's a fairly hard habit to make. But boy does it save me time!

When I got the book Pretty Neat I thought it would be another hum-drum book about how this goes there and that goes over there. Instead it reads more like a novel. Giving readers tips on how to let go of the idea of perfection and accept their own type of organization. For some it may be simply letting go and delegating a few things on the to do list or realizing that even Martha Stewart's house isn't perfect in the junk drawer either.

One of my favorite quotes:

"It starts out slowly: a rattle here, a play mat there. But my, how quickly it escalates. Within one or two years of your firstborn child, your home will have been hit by an inevitable toy tsunami."

And oh boy is that the truth! My favorite overall part of the book is that it gives peaks into the life's of a couple successful woman who manage to keep a happy healthy organized home all the while keeping their sanity intact.

My biggest organizational stress are my kids things!! Toys/books/clothes. And then pantry stuff. I try to organize when I have time (I do flylady, if you've ever heard of it)
